Publication of METRIS report on emerging trends in the SSH

Date:
12/03/2009

The METRIS expert group has published a report that identifies important new and emerging trends in the social sciences and humanities (SSH) in the 5 themes of the Seventh Framework Programme:

  • Growth, employment and competitiveness in a knowledge-based society;
  • Combining economic, social and environmental objectives;
  • Major trends in society and their implications;
  • Europe and the world;
  • The citizen in Europe.

METRIS stands for Monitoring European Trends in Social Sciences and Humanities and supports the European Research Area (ERA) in the SSH.

With regard to WP 1/Task1.1 of the EULAKS project (Review of trends and patterns in SSH co-operation between the EU and LAC) the findings of the METRIS group may be of great relevance.

The report by the METRIS expert group is the first step of an innovative project to provide a system of information gathering on the development of SSH in Europe and will help SSH to come to the centre of ERA, and lead the way towards a common European system of research governance.

The efforts of the METRIS group further reveals the importance of European and international cooperation in the Social Sciences and Humanities in FP7 which is also a central concern of EULAKS.
